Safety Management Systems: How to write a Safety Statement This 3-day course is suitable for owners/dept managers.

Simple Steps to Understanding a Safety Statement for SME's: SQS accredited. On completion of this 2 day course learners will be able to develop straightforward and effective health and safety management systems for their workplace, complete basic risk assessments and identify further training needs, which comply with their legal obligations and safeguard their workplace. Learners will be familiar with the content and purpose of a Safety Statement.

Risk Management Systems: This 2-day course introduces the methodology and terminology of risk assessment. Learners should have a basic understanding of health and safety.

Risk Assessment: SQS Accredited Course. A one day program designed for supervisors and management developed to gain an understanding of risk assessment systems, implementation and monitoring of risk management systems.

Supervising Safety - Level 2 Accredited Course with CIEH UK: This 4-day course is designed for supervisors and first line managers develops key safety monitoring and supervisory skills.

Foundation Certificate in Health & Safety - Level 2 Accredited Course RSPH UK: This 1 day program introduces health and safety at work to all employees and identifies the basic safety issues, responsibilities and controls relevant to employees. The program aims to develop safety awareness and form a foundation for skill based training. This program is suitable for all levels and is accessible to a range of abilities, and levels within a business. Learners are required to complete a short multiple choice exam .

Simple Steps to Understanding a Safety Statement: On completion of this course you will be able to develop straightforward and effective health and safety management systems for your workplace, complete basic risk assessments and identify further training needs, which comply with your legal obligations and safeguard your workplace. Learners will be familiar with the content and purpose of a Safety Statement.

Syllabus:
  • Module 1: Introduction to health and safety law and responsibilities; (employer, employee, safety representatives and the HSA). Emphasis is placed on the key legislation: 2005 Act and General Application Regulations 2007 and Pre-School legislation.
  • Module 2: Introduction to common safety hazards and accident prevention systems
  • Module 3: Risk Assessment requirements, methodologies and practical workshop.
  • Module 4: Safety Management Systems and Safety Statements (best practice principles based on HSA guidelines).

Learners are certified by SQS. This course will be delivered over 4 evenings / 2 full days and aims to assist learners in the development of safety management systems. This course is practical in nature and relies upon the input and application of the theory of safety in the learners work environment. Learners are encouraged to produce risk assessments, safety policies and safe systems of work during the course of the program. Learners are set a series of home based tasks to help them review the course material and develop relevant systems for their workplace. Learners are not required to have a background in safety to attend this course. The program is intended to provide a better understanding of the safety management requirements for their individual workplace (within their individual capabilities).

Basic Health & Safety Certificate: This foundation course provides an introduction to the principles and requirements for health and safety. This program is suitable for any person wishing to gain a basic understanding of health and safety at work or as a foundation for further training.

This course may be delivered in 1 day or over 2 sessions and maybe tailored to explore relevant issues for the Learners or business.

Assessment: Candidates wishing for RSPH certification are required to complete a short multiple choice exam exercise.The program can also be certified by SQS if tailored to a business or group of Learners. Learners with special needs may be assessed separately or complete an oral examination if required.

Supervising Safety: This 1-2 day in-house course is certified by SQS. The program is practical in nature building on the knowledge and experience of the group. The syllabus is tailored to the Clients needs and uses examples from real life work issues and safety systems within the business.

Intended Learning Outcome

  • To provide first line managers, supervisors and with an understanding of their role and responsibilities.
  • To familiarize supervisory staff with a basic knowledge of health and safety law, principle legal requirements placed upon an employer employee and supervisor.
  • To provide competency training in general risk assessment techniques (for non-specialist areas).
  • Provide an understanding of basic supervision techniques and monitoring tools and record systems or forms.
  • To familiarise supervisors with general work place hazards and basic controls.

Assessment: The group will complete a practical exercise during the program.

Office Safety: Who should attend this training? This short program is intended for owners or managers or staff with an interest in understanding the safety issues associated with office work by understanding their responsibilities and duties.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
On completing this training Learners should have:
  • Understanding of the principle health and safety legal requirements for an office.
  • A basic knowledge of the different roles and responsibilities in law.
  • An understanding of the purpose of a Safety Statement.
  • Be familiar with risk factors in an office: ergonomics, use of VDU’s, electrical safety, good housekeeping, first aid and fire/emergency provisions etc...

Duration: 2.5 – 3 hours Cost €35

Operatives Manual Handling Course: Intended Learning Outcomes: On completion of the course the participant should demonstrate awareness of safe systems of work suitable for to a range of common manual handling operations, recognise if a load is too heavy or awkward, lift and be familiar with safe lifting techniques compliant with current best practice.

Syllabus:

  • Definitions: Legal and Technical terminology.
  • Risk Assessment – general, hazardous loads.
  • Specific Risk Assessment – where applicable to a particular activity or environment & manual handling hazards. (TILE).
  • Risk reduction and elimination.
  • Practical: Safe lifting and handling techniques.
  • Good housekeeping.
Assessment: Each learner will complete a range of suitable lifting operations to demonstrate an understanding of the program and safe lifting and movement of loads, we use a range of practical safe techniques using small light items which maybe safely practised with; Learners can then apply these safe techniques to range of lifts in their working day. This course does not include patient handling techniques.

IDuration:3 hours for up to 12 learners. Cost: €350
Please note training alone is insufficient to prevent injury and comply with current safety requirements. Training must be supplemented with effective risk assessment and risk management systems.
Learners should wear loose comfortable clothing and flat footwear and be medically fit to complete the practical session of the course.

Fire Safety Awareness and Fire Marshall Duties: This 3 hour course is suitable for any person within a childcare service as part of an induction or fire safety program. This course may also be suitable for persons engaged in medium to low risk tasks and work environments. The course is 3 hours in duration and may be adapted to comply with a services individual fire safety procedures i.e. the escape plan and evacuation procedures can be incorporated into the session.

  1. Benefits of Fire Safety and fire prevention and protection responsibilities.
  2. Causes of fire and fire management systems overview.
  3. Fire prevention systems.
  4. Fire protection systems, alarms, detectors, means of escape etc.
  5. Fire evacuation systems, fire marshall roles & information and training.
  6. Fire extinguisher selection, use, testing and maintenance.
A practical session on the use of extinguishers may be facilitated if a suitable area is provided.
Candidates are certified by SQS. Where appropriate a short assessment may be developed to assess competency levels. This program is delivered by a qualified instructor with over 30 years experience in fire fighting and fire safety. A shorter tailor made program may be arranged on request.

HACCP Awareness Course:This course is suitable for any person handling food within a food business as part of an induction or refresher program in food safety. This course may also be suitable for persons engaged in low risk tasks. The course is 3 hours in duration and may be adapted to comply with the training requirements outlined.

This training course is tailored the Business in house HACCP management systems (cleaning plan, staff responsibilities etc...). The program places a strong emphasis on managing Critical Control Points and the food handler’s role in day to day HACCP.
Learners are certified by SQS. Where appropriate a short assessment may be
developed to assess competency levels.
Duration: 3 days for up to 12 – 15 learners Cost: €375

RSPH Fundamentals of Food Hygiene:This course is accredited by the Royal Society for the Public Health and is suitable for any person handling food within a food business.The program aims to provide an understanding of the basic hygiene requirements for food workers particularly those working in high risk areas. This program complies with the requirements of the Food Safety Authority of Irelands Level 2 Additional Skills Training Guide. (This program is the equivalent of the EHOA Primary Food Handlers Certificate and offers a more accessible assessmentformat).

Syllabus:
  • Module 1: Food poisoning causes and preventative systems.
  • Module 2: The role of bacteria and micro-organisms in food safety.
  • Module 3: Hygiene control systems, prevention of cross contamination & personal hygiene.
  • Module 4: Pest control and the design and layout of food rooms.
  • Module 5: Cleaning and disinfection, food hygiene law and food handler's responsibilities.
  • Module 6: Temperature control and food storage, preparation, sale and cooking.
  • Module 7: HACCP systems: (introduction).
Assessment: Learners must complete a short multiple choice examination with 30 questions to achieve RSPH Certification. Assessments may be delivered in an oral format where required.
Duration:Training may be delivered in Clients premises over 1 day or in 2 x ½ days (6-7 hours training including 30 minutes assessment).

Simple Steps to HACCP Plan: On completion of this course learners will be able to develop, implement and manage straightforward and effective food safety management systems, which comply with legal requirements and good hygiene practice.

Who should attend this course? his qualification is suitable for any person working with food or working in a food business who needs to have an understanding of HACCP and play an active parin applying the system in their workplace. Learners must have completed prior training to effectively avail of this training; the minimum entry level required is a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.

Syllabus:
  • Module 1: Introduction to HACCP: the law,and best practice.Managing food safety and its benefits to a food business
  • Module 2: Principles of HACCP, HACCP development and the need to develop preventative strategies in food safety management.
  • Module 3 : Identification of hazards in the process, selection of controls and critical control points and the use of flow charts in HACCP systems.
  • Module 4: CCPs and setting critical limits for CCP and monitoring.
  • Module 5: HACCP pre-requisites, maintenance and record-keeping systems.
  • Module 6: HACCP verification systems, identification of further training requirements and resources required to manage a HACCP system in SMEs.

General: The course is primarily Learner driven with a strong emphasis on practical sessions where HACCP is put into practice in the real world, we use the Learners own knowledge and experience to build user friendly systems in group work. There s a generic syllabus, an emphasis on practical and group work using a selection of work activities tailored to the groups experience, requirements and abilities.

Assessment: Learners must successfully complete a short multiple-choice exam and complete a product assessment during the program. Class sizes are limited to 15 Learners per program. Additional modules maybe added on request.
