INFECTION CONTROL & HYGIENE IN CHILDCARE SETTINGS:
PRACTICAL WAYS TO MAKE IT WORK

This 1 day program has been developed to encourage a better understanding of and use of good hygiene, cleaning and infection prevention systems and how to manage a communicable infection outbreak in a childcare setting. The course focuses on the involvement of a partnership approach with childcare workers as the core group working with and including children, parents and management. We develop and provide hands on practical advice and childcare specific practical experience. We aim to involve staff in the day to day management of their rooms and ensure the setting has suitable user-friendly and compliant policies in the areas of cleaning, infection control and outbreak management. The program also includes practical demonstrations of cleaning and disinfection and a walk-through a setting with staff to discuss hygiene requirements in their workrooms.

Who should attend?

This program is aimed at all Childcare workers and management in a setting. An option of a follow up meeting to mentor managers or owners in developing or reviewing their policies after the course is available on request. The program has been developed based on 20 years experience in the area of public health, hygiene, safety and childcare. We have taken on board feedback from childcare services, County Childcare Committees, the Pre-School Service and other stakeholders in developing this program.
